Nantachie Lake

Convenient to Alexandria and Natchitoches, Louisiana

Nantachie Lake is located in Grant Parish, just 30 minutes south of Natchitoches and 40 minutes north of Alexandria. The lake covers 1,580 acres with an average depth of seven feet.

What is unique about Nantachie Lake is that it has two dams. The first one was completed in 1964 and stood 37 feet high and has a maximum of 35,500-acre storage. The second dam stands 20 feet and has a maximum storage of 35,500-acre.

The lake has easy access to Highway 71 for frequent travelers or visitors.

Enjoy the Lake

Due to its shallow waters, residents enjoy using Jon boats, canoes, kayaks, and other flat-bottomed boats for navigating Nantachie Lake.

Anglers enjoy Nantachie Lake because its shallow waters make it great for redear sunfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie.

Four public boat ramps are located on the lake, IP Boat Ramp, Whispering Pines Boat Ramp, Fletcher's Boat Ramp, and Public Boat Ramp.

In addition to its fishing opportunities, Nantachie Lake is known for its duck hunting. Several acres on the north end of the lake that are privately owned are one of the hunting hot spots.

Fun in the Outdoors

Kisatchie National Forest is located east of the lake and offers many opportunities for visitors to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of Central Louisiana.

There is an opportunity for hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, picnicking, winter sports, nature observing, and more. There are also many spots to park RV's or have a more primitive camping experience.

You can drive just a few miles south to the larger city of Alexandria and enjoy the many amenities that it has to offer.

In addition to dozens of restaurants and bars, the Alexandria Zoological Park is another excellent option right in the city. You can see jaguars, Bengal tigers, lions, and more in the spectacular exhibits.

The Red River also winds through Alexandria and makes a great view once the sun begins to set.
